You can schedule a tour of the Utilidor tunnels by booking the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, either online at Disney World’s website. Look under “things to do” and then “events and tours.” Another alternative is to work with a travel agent when booking your trip. They can handle most of your arrangements, including booking tours.

Comment on Finding the Treacherous Route to Yaquina Falls by Kathleen Hesketh https://secondstogo.net/wordpress/yaquina-falls/#comment-438 Thu, 14 Jul 2022 19:29:24 +0000 https://secondstogo.net/wordpress/?p=11462#comment-438 In reply to John Wischnofske.

Wow! This is really cool history. We only know of the presence of the falls, because my son-in-law grew up in the area. He actually proposed to her at the falls, though she swears it was much easier to get there during that visit than the later trip she writes about here. I had heard there was a second falls below Yaquina, but never made it that far. I’d love to find the old gold mine some day.

Below the double falls was an old gold mine which produced very little gold and the Indian Trail from Fort Hoskins to the Siletz Reservation passed below the falls. Mary’s River, flowing to the Willamette, and the Yaquina River, flowing to the ocean are just hundreds of feet apart at the location of the trail. You mentioned a gate. That would be the Harmson gate. To the right of the gate was a canyon. At one time it was logged (1970’s) and you could actually see the old trail as it wound it’s way to the river. As kids we learned of the existence of the falls through Alvin Hamar, a long time resident. Other than these particular falls there is one other one I know of on the river and it’s located on the river near the old Lister homestead. It’s not a tall drop but kept the salmon from going upstream. Now for a little history. You drove past Hamar Lake getting to the falls. Actually a landslide created that. I’m not sure which Hamar it was but a house was built in the little valley that the lake encompasses. That winter the owner went back east and when he returned the house was gone.
