Say hello to Disney World Mobile Order, the revolutionary food service that is changing the game for theme park dining.

With just a few taps on your smartphone, you can now skip the lines at quick service restaurants and have your favorite meals and snacks ready for pick-up. In this article, we will delve into the ins and outs of Disney World Mobile Order, exploring how it works, its benefits, and how it is reshaping the way visitors enjoy their meals at the happiest place on earth.

The State of Traditional Food Service at Disney World

Disney World is renowned for its world-class attractions, immersive experiences, and magical atmosphere. However, long wait times at quick-service food locations have often been a source of frustration for guests.

As case in point, we once waited in line for 20 minutes at Connections Eatery to receive our order. To be fair, we did have an allergy meal included in the lineup, which requires cooking in a separate kitchen, but it certainly wasn’t enjoyable standing at the counter waiting for food to be brought out.

Fortunately, Disney World Mobile Ordering changes all of that.

What Is Disney World Mobile Ordering?

Disney Mobile Ordering is a snappy feature integrated into the official My Disney Experience mobile app that allows park visitors to order their favorite meals and snacks from various Disney dining locations directly from their smartphones. By using this convenient service, you can skip the long lines at the food counters, save precious time, and have your orders ready for pickup at a designated Mobile Order Pick-Up window. With Mobile Order, your quick service dining adventures will be a breeze.

To use Disney World Mobile Order, guests first need to download the My Disney Experience app and create an account or sign into an existing account. If you haven’t already linked your theme park tickets, be sure to do so before you head out the parks.

Once logged into My Disney Experience, you can navigate to the Mobile Order section, where you will find a list of participating food service locations. From there, you can explore menus, view prices, and select your desired items. The app provides detailed descriptions and photos of each dish, making it easy to make informed choices.

  • Select a Dining Location: Once you’re inside one of the Disney theme parks, open the My Disney Experience app, and browse the list of participating dining locations. Each restaurant or snack spot that offers Mobile Ordering will have a special icon indicating its availability.
  • Place Your Order: Browse the menus, customize your order according to your preferences, and confirm your choices. You can take your time without feeling rushed, ensuring you pick the perfect dishes for your Disney meal.
  • Pay Securely: Complete your transaction using a credit card or any other payment method linked to your Disney account. Rest assured that Disney’s payment system is secure, protecting your financial information.
  • Notify the Restaurant that You’ve Arrived: After placing your order, the app will provide you with an estimated pickup time. When the time comes, head to the restaurant and tap the “I’m Here” button to alert the restaurant to your arrival. They will immediately begin making your food.
  • Picking up Your Order: When your order is ready, you’ll receive an alert through the mobile app, so be sure to have your phone handy. If you think you have missed this notification, you can always open the mobile ordering tab in the My Disney Experience app to check the status. When your food is ready, head to the designated Mobile Order Pick-Up. There, you’ll find a special queue exclusively for Mobile Order customers.

Since guests only use this window when their order is ready, there is no wait to pick up your food. Simply show your app’s notification to the friendly Cast Members, and they’ll make sure you’re get everything you ordered.

While Disney World Mobile Order streamlines the entire dining process, from ordering to payment and pick-up, the benefits don’t stop there.

Benefits of Using Disney World Mobile Order

Disney Mobile Ordering offers an array of benefits that elevate your theme park dining experience:

  1. Time-saving convenience: Mobile Order saves you time in quick service food lines, so you can get back to rides, attractions and making memories faster.
  2. Customization: Customizing food orders to accommodate different party preferences can be bothersome if you’re trying to communicate your wishes to a cast member who must then enter it into a computer as you speak. With mobile order, you customize your dish right there in the app, with no worries about anyone waiting behind you.
  3. Allergy free dining: Disney’s commitment to allergy free dining carries over to the mobile app. Guests can peruse allergy menus and select the dishes they want to order. They are marked with a special allergy designation, so the chef knows to cook them in the designated allergy free kitchen. Your items will even be placed on a separate tray from non-allergy food items to avoid cross contamination.
  4. Avoid language barriers: While many guests to the U.S. understand English, speaking it can be a bit more of a challenge. By using mobile order, you eliminate the need to verbally place your food order, easing stress and helping to ensure you get what you really want.
  5. Enhanced order accuracy: Even for native English speakers, traditional food service can sometimes result in miscommunications or errors in orders. With Disney World Mobile Order, guests have complete control over their selections, ensuring that their orders are accurate and tailored to their preferences.
  6. Extra comfort: Instead of standing in line or at a counter waiting for cast members to plate up your food, you can find a table, sit down and relax while you wait for your food to be prepared.
  7. Disney Dining Plans: Beginning in 2024, the Disney Dining Plan returns. Guests who wish to use mobile ordering can pay using dining plan credits.

Top Tips for a Seamless Mobile Ordering Experience

Disney World Mobile Order is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, but we have a few tried and true tips to enhance the experience.

1. Plan ahead: Take some time before your visit to browse menus, familiarize yourself with participating locations, and decide which meals or snacks you would like to order. This will save you time and ensure a seamless ordering experience once you’re in the parks.

2. Take advantage of off-peak dining: While mobile ordering does improve the dining experience, there are a finite number of people the restaurant can accommodate at any given time. That’s while you’ll notice that you might have to wait 15-30 minutes for an available timeslot to retrieve your mobile order. Since this only happens at peak dining hours, you can opt for Mobile Ordering during less busy times to experience even faster service and shorter wait times for your meals.

3. Utilize push notifications: The My Disney Experience app can send push notifications to alert you when your order is ready for pick-up. Make sure to enable these notifications on your smartphone to stay updated and avoid any unnecessary delays.

4. Stay connected: Similar to the last tip, your phone is crucial when it comes to mobile ordering. To make sure you remain connected and receive notifications, you’ll need consistent service. If cell coverage within in the parks is spotty for your carrier, consider switching to Disney’s wi-fi. It’s available across Disney parks and resorts.

5. Order while you stand in line: One pro tip we always adhere to is selecting the right time to order. We find this to be while we wait in line for the last attraction before lunch or dinner. It’s easy to pass the phone around between members of your party while you stand in line and place your order. Just be sure to submit the order before you hop on the ride. When you exit, let the restaurant know you’re on your way by tapping the “I’m here” button.

6. Available now feature: Instead of scrolling through all of the restaurants in the park, only to settle on one and find you have to wait too long to pick up your order, take advantage of the “Available Now” option. By clicking here, you’ll be shown only those restaurants that have immediate order availability.

7. For today only: Mobile ordering is available for same day orders only. The app will also only take orders for restaurants that are currently open or opening soon. Even if you know exactly what you want for lunch on Tuesday, you can’t order it on Monday.

By following these tips, you can make the most of Disney World Mobile Order and ensure a seamless and enjoyable dining experience at the parks.

Do You Have to Use Mobile Order at Disney World?

If you’re still on the fence after reading all of the advantages of mobile ordering at Disney World, feel free to skip it at your preference. Quick service restaurants at Disney World still support traditional food ordering. In fact, you’ll find stations amply staffed during peak dining hours to get you your food as soon as possible.

Can I Charge My Mobile Food Order to My Room?

A key benefit to staying at a Walt Disney World resort is the ability to charge purchases to your room. This perk is particularly advantageous when you’re using MagicBands. Simply tap, enter your pin, and you’re done.

With mobile ordering you won’t be charging your mobile food orders to your room, but the process is just as easy. If you wish to use the card set up for room charges, simply select it when you place your order. Alternatively, you can enter a different card.

Disney World Mobile Order Versus Universal Studios Express Mobile Ordering

Disney World Mobile Order is not the only mobile ordering system available in the theme park industry. Many other parks and attractions have implemented similar solutions to enhance the dining experience for their guests, including Universal Studios.

Universal Express Mobile Ordering, allows guests to order food and beverages from their smartphones and pick them up at designated locations. While similar in concept to Disney World Mobile Order, Universal Express Mobile Order doesn’t require you to select a pick up time. Instead, you’ll be asked to tap “Prepare My Order” when you’re ready to eat, meaning you could have a lengthy wait for your food depending on when you are eating.

If you check out the Universal Express Mobile Order website, you can find some interesting tidbits of info in the fine print. First, Universal dining plans are not available as a method of payment when mobile ordering at the park. Neither are Universal Orlando gift cards.

Second, you may notice that there are a fair number of restaurants that don’t support mobile ordering. Here are the ones that do:

Universal Studios Florida

  • Cafe La Bamba
  • Cletus’ Chicken Shack
  • Duff Brewery
  • Flaming Moe’s
  • Krusty Burger
  • Leaky Cauldron
