Spring in Orlando ushers in delightful weather. The scorching heat of summer has yet to arrive, and you’ll find yourself basking in pleasant temperatures. It’s the Goldilocks of seasons—not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

Ttemperatures in March average a delightful 80 degrees during the day, rarely falling below 65, according to Weatherspark. The threat for rain is sparse as well, as the chance of a washout day is only 25%.

By April, you’ll begin to notice a warming trend. By the end of the month, average temperatures have risen to 85 degrees, while the chance of a rainy day remains about the same.

As May rolls around the amazing weather continues, although temperatures do continue to rise as the month wears on. By the end of the month, humidity levels are escalating as well, jumping from a delightful 11% at the beginning of March to 36% as May rolls around. However, by the time the month ends, you could see humidity reach 77%.

The lesson here is simple. If you wilt in the heat and humidity, definitely plan your trip to Disney World in spring for early in the season.

Discounts Arrive at Disney World in Spring

Despite the arrival of spring break crowds, Disney isn’t shy about offering hotel or ticket discounts. While some dates may be blocked out due to a high level of bookings, you’ll find that special offers are available for most of the season.

Another question we get quite often is “when will discounts will be released” Since special room rates or special offers are only announced to the public when there is an abundance of rooms at Disney resorts, we can’t guarantee that discounts will be available for a given set of spring dates. However, discounts for spring have typically been released in the early part of the year.

One mistake that people often make is waiting to book their Disney vacation package until discounts are released. The first few days a new offer is open for booking can be quite hectic on the Disney website or phone line. You will likely find yourself waiting in a prolonged virtual queue on your computer or mobile device for server availability to handle your request.

Calling Disney phone lines isn’t going to put you to the head of the line either. You’ll wait for cast member availability, often for hours. If you give up, and decide to call the next day, you could just as easily encounter the same wait, after releasing your spot in the queue the day before.

By the time you do reach the reservation area, the resort you wanted may be sold out of discounted rooms. There are a limited number available at each resort.

A better way is to book the resort and room you want ahead of time with a travel agent. A good rule of thumb is to book at least 6 months out if you want to stay at a Disney World resort hotel.

Then, when discounts are released, your agent will automatically rebook your eligible reservation at the discounted price.

Spring Crowds at Disney World

“When is the least crowded time to visit Disney World?” That’s the most common question we get from vacationers, and it makes sense. If you’re taking a trip to Disney, you want the best experience possible. Visiting during one of the most crowded times of the year can make for a bad experience for some people, while others thrive in the fast-paced hustle and bustle.

The nice thing about visiting Disney World in the spring is that you can have both experiences.

As the month of March opens, guests begin to trickle through. As the month wears on, you’ll notice that crowds pick up as spring break vacations begin.

The week of Easter can see crowds peak to epic proportions. In the past few years, we’ve stalked the My Disney Experience app and saw wait times that rivaled the week of Christmas.

However, by the passing of Easter, the school vacations have ended, leaving a relatively tranquil spell at Disney for much of April. The quiet lasts into the beginning of May until schools start to let out for the summer.

This is an ideal time to visit the parks as you’ll have lower crowds and all of the benefits of a spring trip.

Disney World Spring Events

If warmer temperatures and lower crowds weren’t enough to entice you to visit Disney World in spring, then consider all of the special events that take place throughout the season. This is one of of our favorite times to visit the parks and resorts, and the special acitivies are on one of the main reasons.

Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival

Imagine wandering through a garden adorned with millions of blossoms, topiaries of beloved Disney characters, and vibrant floral displays. This is precisely what awaits you at Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival, held annually during the spring months. The park transforms into a botanical wonderland, captivating the senses with a symphony of colors and fragrances.

As you stroll through Epcot’s meticulously manicured gardens, you’ll discover the artistry of Disney’s horticultural experts, as they bring Disney characters to life through beautifully crafted topiaries. Each topiary is a masterpiece and a testament to Disney’s commitment to creating a truly immersive experience.

However, Epcot’s festival isn’t just about visual splendor; it’s a culinary adventure as well. Numerous outdoor kitchens offer delectable dishes inspired by the season’s bounty. Savor mouthwatering flavors as you dine amidst the breathtaking blooms. It’s a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.

It’s also a festival of sound as the Garden Rocks Concert Series brings world-renowned artists and bands to the stage. From classic rock to pop, and everything in between, the Garden Rocks Concert Series showcases a diverse range of musical genres, ensuring that there’s something to delight every ear. It’s a harmonious blend of horticulture and harmony, making the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival a truly immersive and unforgettable experience for all who attend.

The festival typically runs from the beginning of March through early July.

Special Celebrations at Disney World in Spring

In addition to the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival, Disney recognizes multiple celebrations through out its parks.

Earth Day

Earth Day, observed annually on April 22nd, is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainability. Since the special holiday reminds us of the urgent need to protect and preserve our planet, what better place to celebrate than Animal Kingdom where conservation is always top of mind.

Animal Kingdom’s Earth Day Celebration is a remarkable tribute to our planet’s biodiversity and a testament to Disney’s commitment to conservation and education. Each year, this event brings together wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, and families for an immersive experience that showcases the importance of protecting Earth’s precious ecosystems.

Throughout the celebration, Animal Kingdom comes alive with vibrant festivities, including special character encounters and special earth day snacks. Guests may even have the chance to create earth-themed art and crafts and earn wilderness explorer badges by completing special activities within the parks.

The Egg-stravaganza Scavenger Hunt

The Eggstravaganza Easter Egg Hunt at Epcot, held in conjunction with the Flower and Garden Festival, is a delightful springtime tradition that adds an extra layer of excitement to the season.

It’s a fun-filled adventure for guests of all ages, combining the magic of Disney with the joy of the Easter holiday.

As visitors explore the lush gardens and pavilions of EPCOT, they take part in an engaging scavenger hunt, seeking out intricately designed, Disney-themed Easter eggs that are cleverly concealed in various locations.

As you find each egg, fill in its corresponding location on a specially purchased map. If you find them all, you’ll win a prize. Prizes in the past have included an exclusive selection of plastic eggs decorated with Disney characters.

You will need to purchase the map, which in essence, covers the cost of the prize while giving you some special added fun as you make your way around the park.

Special Easter Events

Easter comes to Disney World with special treats and exhibits. While the exact offerings change from year to year, you’ll find the celebration encompasses the parks and resorts of Disney World in the spring.

Resorts get into the action with special decorations and displays. One favorite is the famous pastry-Easter Egg displays, where some of Disney’s most talented pastry teams take their turn at creating handcrafted Easter Eggs. You’ll also find an astounding display of special treats and eats to celebrate the holiday across Disney resorts and parks.

Cons of a Spring Trip to Disney

If everything we’ve said to this point doesn’t convince you that spring is a great time to visit Disney World, we get it. You’re being thorough. After all, there is always a downside to even the best that life has to offer.

If you’re visiting Disney World in spring, the cloud in the sky might come from spring break crowds. If you don’t like large groups of people, and don’t want to worry about strategizing to avoid the longer lines, then you’ll definitely want to avoid the early part of spring when school vacation crowds are at their peak. However, if you visit between Mid-April and Mid-May, you can skip the crowds, but gain all the benefits of a Disney World spring vacation.
